#2 Neumann5, #1 Marywood 4
The Neumann College Men’s Tennis team defeated Marywood University 5-4 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Team Championship, bringing home their first conference championship in the program’s history.
Marywood dominated on the court all season, coming into the championship undefeated in conference play. The Pacers continued their streak at one singles, with Kyle McGee defeating Chris Brown 1-6, 1-6. With Joe Listanski winning two singles, the Pacers were up 4-1. Wins by Neumann’s John Slinka, Andrew Bitar and Barry Harvey at third, fifth and sixth singles, respectively, tied the match at 4-all.
In the deciding match, Neumann’s Dan Harnos defeated Tim Franzone in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Neumann College will represent the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in the NCAA Tournament. First round action begins May 3 and May 4.

Match Number One: #1 Marywood 5, #4 Alvernia 1
Marywood University, entering the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Team Championship as the top seed, defeated #4 Alvernia College to advance to the Team Finals.
Marywood took an early lead, winning the three doubles flights 8-1, 8-4 and 8-2, respectively. Alvernia College made their first appearance on the board with a win at number five singles, as Ryan Lineaweaver easily won a straight-set, 6-0, 6-0. It would not be enough, and the Crusaders fell as the Pacers took wins at numbers one and six singles. With only five points needed for victory, Marywood advanced to the final round.
The Pacers will face Neumann College in the Team Championship Finals on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 12:00 p.m.
Match Number Two: #2 Neumann 5, #3 Cabrini 2
Number two Neumann College defeated number three Cabrini in the semi-final round of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Team Championship.
The Knights took two of three doubles flights, building an early lead over the Cavaliers before heading into singles action. John Slinka took number three singles for the Knights, but the two-point lead receded back to one as Cabrini’s Justin Walsh defeated Neumann’s Greg Bridgeman at number two singles. With a win at number six singles, and the match point on the line, Neumann’s Andrew Bitar took the victory, sending the Knights to the final round.
The #2 Knights will face #1 seeded Marywood University in the final round on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 12:00 p.m.
