Two Griffins player would each hit two times from the line to cut the deficit to 37-32 at the break.
In the second half, GMC's Karen Tierney’s lay-up off a steal with 13:49 gave Gwynedd its first lead (46-44) since early in the first, but Cabrini answered a trifecta on the next possession from Katie Frinfrock to reclaim the lead.
The Griffins would push ahead and lead by as much as 63-57 as Lauren Rosar hit one of two from the stripe.
DiAmico started the rally hitting her first three-pointer and with two free throws from Frinfrock, cut the Griffin lead to 63-62 with 6:12 in the game.
Tierney would score a tough layup inside with just under a minute left to cut it 73-72 before DiAmico would hit one of two free throws to set up the final conclusion as the Griffiths' field goal attempt with just two seconds left on the clock fell short.
The Cavaliers shot 41.0% (25-of-61) from the field and knocked down seven three-point field goals.

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Senior Karen Tierney (Blue Bell, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) scored 21 points to help lead top-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy to its 11th-straight PAC Championship Game as the Griffins prevailed over #4 Alvernia, 79-71, Wednesday night.
Gwynedd will play #2 Cabrini, who were 57-49 overtime winners over Misericordia, in a rematch of last year’s conference title game here at the Griffin Complex this Saturday at 7 p.m.
Tierney was one assist and two rebounds shy of a triple double as the Griffins (21-5) erased a 37-33 halftime deficit.
Freshman Lauren Rosar (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was equally impressive, notching her ninth double-double of the season, etching out 17 points and a season-high 19 rebounds. Sophomore Kate Wisniewski (Newtown Square, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) added 13 off the bench while junior Kristy Cramp (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) added 10, including two big treys in the second stanza.
Gwynedd hit 24-of-29 attempts from the line including 20-of-24 in the second half and outrebounded Alvernia, 43-26.
Kelli McIntyre led the Crusaders (14-13) with a game-high 22 points. Jill Rosolie added 16.
The first half saw GM commit 12 turnovers and had trouble finding their groove. Late in the period, Rosolie hit two free throws with just over a minute to give Alvernia a 37-30 lead, its biggest of the game. Tierney answered with her third three-pointer of the period with 40 ticks left to cut the hole to just four points at the break.
After the Griffins rallied to knot the game up at 48-48 at the 14 minute mark and again at 56-56 with 8:51 left, Rosar completed a three-point play start to swing the momentum for GM. The teams would trade the lead twice before Wiseniewski hit from downtown for a 59-58 edge.
Cramp sank the first of her two trifectas with 4:01 left to help break a 62-62 tie. Minutes later she and Wisniewski each struck again from downtown to put the game away, spearheading an eight-point lead with just over two minutes in the game. Gwynedd would hit 6-of-6 attempts from the line to help ice the contest.
7:00 p.m. #2 Cabrini 57, #3 Misericordia 49
RADNOR, Pa. (February 27) – Sophomore Deana DiAmico hit a three-point field goal at the buzzer to force overtime as the Cabrini College women’s basketball team advances to the finals of the PAC Championships with a 57-49 win over Misericorida University this evening. The second-seeded Cavaliers improve to 20-6 while the third-seeded Cougars end their season with a 19-8 mark. The Cavaliers will face top-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
Junior forward Brittany McLeod posted a double-double tonight, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Alyssa Brady led the team in scoring tonight with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.
The first half was a battle for the lead between the Cavaliers and Cougars. The Cougars kept the Cavaliers at an average of five points through the first half. The Cavaliers only managed to hit 8-of-31 shots from the field in the first half, compared to the Cougars’s 7-of-24 shots. A half-court buzzer-beater from Amy Hughes of Misericordia gave them their largest lead of the game, six points, leaving a half-time score at 23-17.
The Cavaliers trailed for most of the second half, finally pulling ahead with 7:07 left in the game by a three-pointer by Rachel Caron. The Cavaliers then led the game for the next six minutes, before a layup by Ericka Morrison with 26 seconds left in the game put the Cougars in front by one. Two sets of free throws by Lindsey Sykes of Misericordia extended its lead to three with six seconds remaining.
However, right at the buzzer, sophomore point guard Deana DiAmico landed in one last three-point shot to keep the Cavalier’s hopes of a trip to the PAC Finals alive to tie the score at 46 apiece.
In overtime, the Cavaliers came out with a full onslaught against the Cougars, only allowing them to pull ahead for less than a minute with a three-pointer by Hughes. DiAmico responded again with a three-pointer with 1:57 left in the half to give the Cavaliers a two-point lead and Cabrini hit 6-of-10 free throws in the final five minutes for the win.
Cabrini outscored Misericordia 11-3 in the overtime period.
The Cougars were led by Amy Hughes’ 15 points.
PAC Quarterfinal
Monday, February 25, 2008
7:00 p.m. #3 Misericordia 55, #6 Neumann 49
Amy Hughes scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 55-49 win over Neumann in the first round of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference playoffs, Monday night at the Anderson Center.
Lacey DeGraw had 12 points and eight rebounds and Ericka Morrison added eight points and eight rebounds as the Cougars improved to 19-7 and advanced to the PAC semi-finals at Cabrini, Wednesday.
After Neumann erased a nine-point MU lead to tie the game, 39-39, with 6:14 to go, Hughes scored seven points as the Cougars put the game away with an 11-0 run. DeGraw put Misericordia back in front with a pair of free throws before Hughes' layup made it 43-39 with 5:17 to play. Following a Vanessa Wright jumper, Hughes added a putback and converted a three-point play for a 50-39 lead with 1:44 remaining.
Hughes and Morrison both added a pair of free throws in the final minute to secure the win.
Hughes opened the game by scoring MU's first six points and the lead exchanged hands seven times in the first half.
The Cougars trailed just once in the second half, 26-25, but regained the lead on Bernadette Guy's bucket and back-to-back three-pointers from Hughes and Lindsey Sykes helped stretch the lead to nine, 37-28, with 13:06 to go.
7:00 p.m. #4 Alvernia 79, #5 Centenary 62
Reading, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2008) – Freshman Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) matched her career high with 25 points to lead fourth-seeded Alvernia College to 79-62 win over #5 Centenary College Monday evening in quarterfinal action of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championships at the Physical Education Center.
Alvernia has now won nine straight games and will travel to top-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The two teams split the season series with both teams winning on the road and Alvernia snapping a 43-game conference winning streak for the Griffins with an 83-80 decision on Feb. 7.
Alvernia ran off the first significant run of the night putting together an 11-2 run that built a 10-point lead, 21-11. Centenary cut the lead in half with a 5-0 spurt led by a 3 from Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Josephs by the Sea) and a jumper from senior Alana Way (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens). Two minutes later the Crusaders pushed it back to 10, 28-18 on a Jill Rosolie (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) layup.
The Cyclones took two minutes to cut the gap to six and pulled within four points, 31-27 on a Way layup with 1:19 on the first half clock. Rosolie answered that shot, but Centenary sophomore Nicole Van Tassel (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) converted a 3-point play for the Cyclones to close the first half scoring with Alvernia holding a tenuous three point lead, 33-30.
McIntyre hit a 3, and Nieves had two free throws early in the second half, but the rest of the first three minutes belonged to the Cyclones who took the lead on back-to-back Camuso 3s, the second of which prompted a 30-second timeout for the Crusaders.
Rosolie assisted McIntyre on a jumper coming out of the timeout and the Crusaders regained the lead. Cyclones’ leading scorer, Stephanie Roberts (Bakersfield, Calif./South) turned the ball over on successive possessions before another McIntyre bucket made it four straight for the hosts. Graber hit a 3 and Rosolie and McIntyre capped the 11-0 run with back-to-back jumpers.
The Crusaders did a great job containing Roberts while the outcome was still in question. She scored just nine of her team-high 20 points before the Alvernia lead hit double digits for good. The Crusaders forced the senior guard/forward into two turnovers and three missed shots while they went from down one to up 10.
Roberts did connect on a 3 with 12:30 left to cut the lead to seven, but McIntyre answered with a jumper assisted by Barnes. After six empty possessions Roberts scored to pull back within seven, but McIntyre was there again for the Crusaders with a 3 that pushed the gap to 10, 58-48. It grew to 12 on a Rosolie layup with 7:41 left and Alvernia cruised to the 17-point victory.
Alvernia scored 46 points in the second half to build on its three point halftime lead. Rosolie and Graber joined McIntyre in double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively, and Rosolie tied a career high with six assists. Centenary, which was limited to a seven-player rotation, had four players in double figures. Camuso finished with 14 on 4-for-10 3-point shooting, Van Tassel finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Way added 10 points and nine rebounds.
